go here and click on video if you want to see my final video project, the one I filmed in Georgia with Steve.
I don't know why this thing won't let me post links. Oh, well. Oh, and try animation too, it's kind of funny. The video takes awhile to load too, so be patient.

you are the smell before rain, you are the blood in my veins

I have finally found a song that when I heard it for the first time, I thought, wow I'm going to dance to this with my bride on our wedding day. The song was written by John Lennon, and performed by Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello, that's right, The Postal Service. The song is called "Grow Old WIth Me", but good luck finding it. It isn't on iTunes, and it took me all day to find it otherwise. But anyway I simply love it because it's clear to me when I listen to it, either the original or the Postal Service cover, that John Lennon really loved Yoko Ono. Even though I find her very very creepy, and I don't think she loved him back, at least not in the same way. He at least really loved her, and it comes through in this song. This was also the last song he wrote before he was murdered. Now, dwell on the irony...

holding on to yourself the best you can

So there went another weekend. This one was largely spent in K-Mart. Keeli and managed to land the fabulous job of being the Axe Angel in K-Mart, trying her best to sell Axe to every Oswald and Ernie that walked by. Since this amounted to about 4 people, she was quite bored. So being the great friends that we are, we spent a good bit of time hanging out in K-Mart this weekend. Including going to get Japanese take out, and eating it on a patio table in the Lawn and Garden section. Now, if I can only get through this week.

you are so fragile and thin, standing trial for your sins

You and me, we’re so young, so hopeful, so naïve. That’s what I love about you. How can we stay here, how can we never lose hope, never grow old, stay naïve? Well, I’ll always love you, no matter what I love about you. So I guess it doesn’t matter.

spring keeps you ever close, you are second hand smoke

Once again I find myself in a sort of unconscious melancholy, as soon as I find myself alone, my thoughts intrude and suddenly I feel me, and so I run away to the people around me, drowning my sorrows with their laughter.
Much thanks to Keeli and her family for taking me in for Easter. Another unforgettable experience in a life marked by them.

Four for Fighting

For me music is essential. Even though I have no ability to produce it, I can’t be without it. My ipod never leaves my side, because no matter what is going on around me, the small white rectangle offers total escape. I have a particular fondness for extremely long songs, the kind of song that even though its twice the length of a normal song, you still wish there was more. To me, when a song hits six minutes or so, it reaches a new level of greatness. So here are four long songs that I would not want to think about living without, and two that I must also mention:

1. Hey Jude (7:04) by The Beatles, quite possibly the greatest Rock ‘N Roll song of all time. If you don’t know it by heart, shame on you.
2. Transatlanticism (7:57) by Death Cab for Cutie, reminds me of Hey Jude for some reason, it takes me to a wonderful place with its simple repetition of, “I need you so much closer….”
3. Moon River (9:41) by Morrissey, yes yes, much thanks to Jamie for this one, and crying makes it.
4. A (9:45) by The Cartel, I have no idea why I love this song so much.

And an honorable mention to The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald (6:32) by Gordon Lightfoot, for the tragic story of a shipwreck on Lake Superior.
And an honorable honorable mention to, God is Love (18:02) by Jonathan Helser, for the impact it’s had on so many people, and for its spectacular longness.

watch it burn

beth

With sping, apparently has come one amazing weekend after another. This time, Lauren and Bingham came up for the weekend and were introduced to the weirdness and wonderfulness that is Boone. But more importantly, God was there, his voice spoke and he moved. Once again, I know that these people around me that God has blessed me with keep me sane. Just when I feel like I can't take it any more, God gives me strength. It was so good to see Bing and Lauren again, I miss them so much. Once again I realize how grateful I am for what God has given me in my friends, and I have never and will never take that for granted. Summer don't come to soon.

Promised Land

Today was amazing, perhaps just the sort of day that I have been longing for although, until it happened I was unaware of how much I needed it. The day began as all Sunday’s do with a reluctant climb out of bed and off the church. However, today was beautiful, 70 degrees and sunshine galore. Obviously this was not a day to waste. So after lunch we headed to Hebron rock colony were hours were spent leaping from rock to rock, climbing in holes and caves, swimming in cold water, and generally having fun in what was a paradise for men, boys, and dogs. We climbed and jumped and crawled and swam all over the place until we were exhausted and so so thirsty (I would have satisfied my thirst with the cold mountain water if Britty hadn’t prevented me.) After we were spent, we drank our fill from gas station drinks, and headed off the Jonathan’s to cook some meat. After I was defeated in a weird made up game by Miss Roberts, the meat cooking commenced. The unfortunate thing was that the meat had been acquired from our church for free, and was not what you would call entirely edible. Not that that stopped anyone. However, after awhile we did decide that we would rather eat burgers than, “what’s behind door number one”. So, I went and bought a bunch of burgers and we grilled those and were happy. All the while we were laughing about everything, and enjoying the company of amazing friends. The perfect ending for a perfect day came with a change of weather. The storm came and so did the rain and thunder. We stood out on Jonathan’s deck and watched the lightening. Then came Iron & Wine singing Such Great Heights, and we all went home. The cast for the perfect day? Matt, Heather, Marshall, Jonathan, Eddie, Neil, Keeli, Whitney, Michael, Britty, Sarah, Michelle, Amara, Seth, and Kyle. The only thing that could have made it better was if you were there. Whoever you are. And now I’m going to bed.
